Over our 10 years of making beer, and sharing beers with our community, we’ve seen some former Beersmiths “take off” to pursue their next dream. Let’s catch up with former SingleCut North Bartender, Morgan Winnie!
Q: Tell us everything about what you’re up to now.
A: So currently I am a First Officer (copilot) at Cape Air. I am based out of Portland, ME; it is temporarily closing down, so I will be traveling around to which ever bases the company needs me at! This is a nice change- it’ll allow me to experience different places to fly, meet all types of different pilots, and live at home with my boyfriend and dog temporarily.
A: Aviation is something I found in high school. I always enjoyed aviation as a child, but never thought to consider it as a career option. I started flying in high school, after meeting a family friend. My dad was very stationary in his work so he joked around a lot saying “become a pilot so you can fly me around when I’m old“. Well, when I finally met that friend, I convinced her to take me flying and fell in love with aviation. I decided to do my community service work ( to graduate high school) with this Pilot as her assistant. She was my flight instructor and teacher at a nearby community college. I figured it would be a good way to learn more about the community, and possibly find more opportunities to fly. I ended up finding some great opportunities which helped me get my private pilots license for free. Once I graduated high school, I went to that same community college I was volunteering at! I studied aviation science, got my instrument and my commercial license. I then went to Arizona State University to finish my degree. I switched to major different than aviation, in case I ever lost my medical. After college, I missed flying and decided to get back into it! I started by obtaining my multi engine license, and was supposed to get a surveying job with a great company.Unfortunately COVID hit, and all hiring was frozen. Not wanting to wait with an undetermined date in sight, I decided to keep moving forward. I did this by obtaining my certified flight instructor license (teach others how to fly). I had a few student that I taught to fly and now have their private pilots license, and are moving up. While instructing, I applied to cape air to move forward myself!
